NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team pushed its scoreless streak to 398 minutes and 15-seconds with a 2-0 shutout victory over Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night at the CGA Track Complex.
Junior Kelsee Howes (Maynard, Mass./Maynard) found the back of the net for the third time in as many contests in the 15th minute and classmate Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) added her seventh marker of the season in the 32nd minute to account for the offense.
Howes and junior captain Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) both picked up assists on Verde's goal late in the first half with Howes initiating the strike. After receiving a cross in the box from Howes, Corigliano one-touched a pass to Verde for a wide open one-timer that beat Coast Guard junior goalkeeper Holly Moore (Pittsfield, Mass.).
Moore finished with a game-high six saves, including four stops in the opening stanza. Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) turned aside five shots on goal for the Lyons to record her fourth shutout this season.
