Box Score Lyons improve to 15-7-2 all-time versus Pride
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College junior Laila Razzaghi (Ringoes, N.J./Princeton Day School) scored the game's lone goal in the 75th minute from the left side of the 18-yard line to lift the Lyons past Springfield College, 1-0, at Mirrione Stadium in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
With the win, Wheaton improves to 8-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play, while Springfield dips to 7-4-1 and 3-1-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Lyons finished the match with 14 shots and one corner, while the Pride registered 14 shots and four corners. Springfield registered two of its four corners in the final two minutes of the contest, but Wheaton's defense denied both opportunities.
Neither team located the back of the net until Razzaghi scored her second goal of the season at 74:44 to provide the hosts with the lead for good. Razzaghi collects her second-career game-winning marker after recording a game-winning goal against Williams College on September 9, 2012 in a 2-1 win.
Wheaton junior Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) led the Blue and White with three shots, while Razzaghi and senior Kristina Braga (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) recorded two shots apiece.
Springfield senior Ashley Carresi (Billerica, Mass/Marlborough) led her squad with four shots, two of them finding the net.
Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) picked up her first win of the season with eight saves. Springfield junior goalkeeper Lucy Gillett (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Hoftstra) finished with four stops.
Both Springfield and Wheaton return to NEWMAC action on Tuesday, October 15 with the Lyons hosting Emerson College at 3:30 p.m. and the Pride entertaining Clark University at 7 p.m.
