BABSON PARK, Mass. – Sophomore Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored three goals in Wheaton College's 7-6 loss to Springfield College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Semifinals Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) scored her 76th goal of the season for the No. 3 seed Lyons, who fall to 12-6 and will now wait to see if they are selected to participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. Colburn's goal gives her 112 points this season and places her in a first-place tie with Therese Ross (1983-86) for the program's single-season points record.

Sophomore Kelly Gallo (Westford, Mass./Westford) potted three goals for the No. 2 seed Pride (10-7) while freshman Michelle Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) converted a free position shot with 11 seconds remaining to break a 6-6 tie and send the Pride back to the NEWMAC Finals.

The two schools traded the first four goals of the game as junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) and sophomore Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) scored for the Lyons while Gallo and junior Meghan Flanagan (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) tallied for Springfield. Wheaton pulled ahead 4-2 on goals by Colburn at 20:13 and DeSantis at 17:04 before a goal by junior Jennifer Califano (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) at 8:31 made the halftime score 4-3 in favor of Wheaton.

Each team fired off 11 shots in the opening 30 minutes. Springfield forced the Lyons to commit 10 turnovers and was a perfect 11-for-11 on clearing attempts. Wheaton freshman goalie Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) made six first-half saves.

Gallo opened the second-half scoring with a free position goal at 22:58 that tied the game at four. Springfield took its first lead of the afternoon at 19:39 on senior Jackie Moscardelli's 43rd goal of the season. DeSantis answered for Wheaton with her 43rd of the year less than two minutes later to even the score at five.

Moscardelli set up Gallo for her 35th marker of 2012 midway through the second half to put the Lyons behind by one, and the score remained 6-5 in favor of Springfield until DeSantis tallied with 4:39 remaining in regulation to tie the game. With under a minute remaining, the Lyons committed a turnover in their own end and fouled Dorsey to set up the game-winning goal.

The Pride finished with a 23-22 edge in shots and went 3-for-5 on free position attempts. They also converted 21-of-22 clearing attempts and committed two fewer turnovers (20-18) than Wheaton.

Ananian finished the afternoon with 13 saves and saw her record fall to 11-5. Colburn won seven draw controls while sophomore Devon Soucier (Avon, Conn./Northwest Catholic) added to her conference-leading caused turnover total with two. Sophomore Anne Versprille (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) recorded nine saves for the Pride. Freshman Ellie Getchell (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) led Springfield in ground balls (four) and caused turnovers (four).

Springfield and No. 1 seed Babson will play for the NEWMAC Championship Sunday at 1 p.m. in Babson Park.
