NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team blanked Colby-Sawyer College 9-0 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Beard Field House. The win moves the Lyons to 10-5 while the Chargers fall to 9-9.
Senior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) won her 17th match of the season by defeating sophomore Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) picked up her 14th win with a 6-2, 6-0 win over junior Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass./Barnstable) at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over freshman Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine./White Mountain School) at No. 3 singles for her 11th win of the season. Classmate Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) won her 10th match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over senior Sibohan Masse (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge) at No. 4 singles.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) won her first match with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over freshman Ellen Graham (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport). Freshman Kathryn Burleson (Osterville, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) earned her first-career win as she defeated freshman Hannah Coggins (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) at No. 6 singles, 8-1.
In doubles action, Cooke and Marlowe were 8-0 winners at No. 1 over Lincoln and Toffey, Bell and Crom downed Tkachenko and freshman Donna Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex Junction) 8-3 at No. 2, and Burleson and Moore upended Coggins and Masse 8-4 at No. 3.
