NORTON, Mass. - Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) scored five goals and junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) recorded a goal and four assists in Wheaton College's 17-10 win over Wellesley College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at Keefe Field.

Senior Sydney Ferguson (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) chipped in with four goals, five draw controls and three ground balls as the Lyons improved to 10-5 on the season and 3-2 in the NEWMAC. Sophomores Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick), along with freshman Melanie Sharick (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), each potted two goals.

With the game tied at four eight minutes into the first half, the Lyons reeled off six-straight goals over the next 10 minutes to grab a 10-4 lead. Fergsuon started the run with a pair of markers, followed by goals from Sharick, senior Katie Powers (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy), Mills, and Moreira.

The Blue (5-9, 3-2 NEWMAC) scored three of the next four goals to close the first-half scoring with Wheaton in front 10-7. Sophomore Brit Mscisz (Topsfield, Mass./Pingree School) scored four goals in the frame to pace Wellesley while freshman Claire Canty (East Rockaway, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) tallied twice.

Wheaton opened the second half with four-straight goals to build a 15-7 lead. Mills sparked the run with her second of the afternoon 50 seconds in, Moreira set up Fergsuon and Colburn at 27:18 and 25:18, and Sharick scored an unassisted marker with 22:38 on the clock. The teams traded the next five goals as Colburn scored twice for the Lyons while Canty went for a goal and an assist for the Blue.

"We had a great offensive performance today," said Lyons head coach Emily Kiablick. "We struggled a bit defensively, but part of that is because Wellesley did a great job passing the ball."

Freshman Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) recorded six saves to earn her eighth win of the season. DeSantis also recorded three ground balls to lead Wheaton field players, Colburn won six draw controls, and sophomore Devon Soucier (Avon, Conn./Northwest Catholic) caused four turnovers.

Mscisz paced the Blue with four goals and an apple, Canty finished with three goals and an assist, and freshman Rachel Hanscom (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) notched a goal and two assists. Sophomore Tia Logan (Hillsboro, N.H./Phillips Exeter) played the first 30 minutes and allowed seven goals on 13 shots to fall to 4-4. Junior Allison Robbins (North Bennington, Vt.,/Holderness School) collected a team-high four ground balls.

The Lyons return to action on Thursday when they travel to Springfield for a 4 p.m. contest at Western New England. The Blue close their regular season with a 1 p.m. contest at Babson on Saturday.
