Box Score MILTON, Mass. - Sophomore Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored a career-high eight goals in Wheaton College's 18-7 win at Curry College in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday evening at the D. Forbes Will Athletic Complex.
Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) added three goals and an assist for the Lyons, who improved to 3-2 with the win. Junior Elizabeth Hickey (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) scored twice and freshman Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) made 14 saves en route to her second win of the season.
The Lyons scored seven times in the opening nine minutes to build a 7-1 lead. Colburn opened the scoring at 27:39 with her 19th of the season, followed by senior Sydney Ferguson's (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) ninth of the season 20 seconds later. After Curry senior Heather Breton (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) put the Colonels on the board at 27:01, DeSantis netted a pair of goals to push Wheaton's lead to 4-1.
Wheaton closed the first half leading 13-3 as DeSantis finished with five goals and one assist while Hickey had two goals. Seniors Sabrina Fiori (Newton, Mass./Beaver Country Day School) and Kristen Powers (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy), along with junior Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy), each tallied once for the Lyons in the opening 30 minutes.
Curry junior Anna Bottary (Hull, Mass./Hull) scored her 18th and 19th goals in the second half for the Colonels, who were outscored 5-4 in the second half and never closed the gap to more than nine goals. DeSantis scored three of Wheaton's five second-half markers, and both Colburn and freshman Melanie Sharick (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) each scored once.
Each team recorded 27 shots. Ferguson won four draw controls and collected a team-high two ground balls for the Lyons. Sophomore Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) won six draw controls for Curry.
The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Springfield, Mass. for a noon contest with the Pride. Curry travels to Maine for a 1 p.m. game at UNE on Saturday.
