NEW LONDON, Conn.- The seventh-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team extended multiple streaks Saturday afternoon at the United States Coast Guard Academy, as the Lyons blanked the Bears by a 4-0 count in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Ranked seventh in the country and tops in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Wheaton improved to 13-0-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play.  The Lyons stretched their unbeaten streak to 15 games while winning for the eighth straight time and recording their sixth consecutive shutout.  Coast Guard fell to 2-10 and 0-6.

With the win, Wheaton also gave head coach Luis Reis his 298th career victory at the school, leaving the 16th-year man two victories shy of becoming just the sixth active Division III coach to hit the 300-victory milestone.

Four different Lyons found the back of the net this afternoon, with freshman Julia Cipriano (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) registering the winner in the 20th minute.  Cipriano secured a loose ball from the top of the box and tucked her shot in to the right set of the net.

Sophomore Lauren Mankowski (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) made the score 2-0 in the 33rd minute, when she scored following a rebounded shot that came off the post from junior Kristina Braga (Lowell, Mass./Lowell).

Sophomore Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) extended the Lyon lead to three just 47 seconds into the second half, with the assist going to senior Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central).  Sophomore Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) completed the scoring with an unassisted marker in the 57th minute.

Freshman goalie Ali Hinton (Lafayette, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) improved to 8-0 on the season with no saves in the opening half, while classmate Lauren Thacker (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) finished with three second-half stops.

The Lyons held a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Wheaton, which thanks to Springfield's victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) today, is now the lone unbeaten team in league play.  The Lyons host the regionally-ranked Engineers on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.  MIT is ranked eighth in New England.
