NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team ran its program-best winning streak to 14 matches following its second straight shutout Thursday afternoon, blanking visiting Salve Regina University, 8-0 in Beard Field House.

The Lyons entered the match ranked 11th in the region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and improved to 16-1 overall, which is one victory shy of last year's program-best 17.  Playing for the first time since last October, Salve Regina slipped to 10-4.

The hosts' top doubles tandem comprised of senior Catherine Teague (Manchester, N.H./Central) and freshman Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) set the tone early, shutting out the opposition, 8-0.  Wheaton's second and third doubles duos followed suit, each winning by 8-1 counts.

Senior Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) and junior Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, R.I./Lincoln School) made up the second doubles team, while freshman duo of Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) and Madison Hartley (Charlotte, Vt./Rice Memorial) emerged victorious at three.

In five completed singles matches, the Lyons surrendered a total of four games, with regionally-ranked Cooke and DiOrio sweeping the competition at the second and third positions, respectively.  Senior Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School) and Hartley surrendered just one game apiece at the first and fourth slots, respectively, while Van Faasen cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at five.

The Lyons are scheduled to be back in action on Friday, April 8, when they will look to match their program wins record against visiting State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta at 2:45 p.m.
