BABSON PARK, Mass. - The No. 4 seed Wheaton College women's tennis team saw their dream of capturing a third-straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship come to an end with a 5-1 loss to No. 1 seed Wellesley College in semifinal action Saturday afternoon at Babson College. The Lyons complete their fall campaign with an 8-4 mark while the Blue improve to 9-1.

Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and freshman Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) picked up the Lyons lone point of the afternoon, defeating Wellesley senior Marie Watanabe (Houston, Texas/Greenwich) and freshman Sojung Lee (Seoul, Korea/The Lawrenceville School), 8-2.

The Blue won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to grab a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Wellesley sophomore Diana Granger (Glencoe, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and freshman Emily Bary (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) earned an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 over senior co-captain Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, R.I./Lincoln School) and sophomore Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen). Freshmen Melissa Clark (Naples, Fla./Naples) and Joyce Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Valley Christian) followed with an 8-4 win at No. 3 over junior Jesse Boggis (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and sophomore Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester).

Wellesley picked up wins at the bottom three singles positions to seal the win. Granger posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bell at No. 4 singles, Lee added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Crom, and sophomore Kendall Tada (Hilo, Hawaii) downed Boggis 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Blue advance to the NEWMAC Finals on Sunday afternoon, where they will face the winner of the No. 2 MIT/No. 3 Babson match at 1 p.m.
