Muse's 89th-minute tally breaks stalemate at Husson

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - Sophomore Cassey Muse's (Candia, N.H./Central) breakaway goal in the 89th minute Sunday afternoon at Husson College helped the nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team remain unbeaten during a 1-0 victory at Bouchard Field.

Improving to 7-0-1, the Lyons, which are ranked 21st in the country and third in the region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), recorded their third consecutive shutout.  The Eagles fell to 4-4.

Muse's goal at 88:11 was set up perfectly by junior Kaitlyn Mawicke (Trumbull, Conn./Notre Dame Catholic), whose up-field pass provided Muse a one-on-one opportunity with Husson junior Rozlyn Petersen (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional).  Petersen came off her line to challenge the play, but Muse was able to find an angle and proceeded to slot her shot just inside the post for her second game-winner of the fall.

Freshman goalkeeper Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) registered her first collegiate shutout, notching one first-half save on five Eagle shots.  Petersen was credited with four saves as the Lyons doubled up Husson in shots and corner kicks with advantages of 10-5 and 4-2, respectively.

Wheaton returns home on Wednesday to face regionally-ranked Tufts University at 4:30 p.m.  The Jumbos are tied for 10th in the most recent NSCAA New England poll.
