SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team continued its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) prowess on Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 triumph at Mount Holyoke College, as the Lyons wrapped up at least a share of their second straight regular season league championship.

Ranked 10th regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the Blue and White improved to 6-0 in conference play while having outscored the opposition by an aggregate 50-4 margin.  Wheaton also extended its winning streak to six matches in improving to 8-1.  Mount Holyoke fell to 2-6 and 2-4.

Seniors Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, N.H./Central) and freshmen Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and Madison Hartley (Charlotte, Vt./Rice Memorial) each won their singles and doubles matches.

Geocaris and Teague rolled to an 8-0 victory at first doubles, while Cooke and Hartley doubled up their counterparts by an 8-4 count at number two.  The hosts' lone point of the day came in the third doubles position.

Wheaton's top four singles players had little difficulty during their matches.  Junior Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, R.I./Lincoln School) notched a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at number four, while Teague, Geocaris and Cooke each yielded just three games at one, two and three, respectively.

In the fifth spot, Hartley won 7-5, 6-1, while senior Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) picked up a 7-6 tiebreaker victory in the opening set at six before cruising to a 6-1 match-ending score in the second set.

Wheaton turns back around tomorrow for its final home match of the regular season against regionally-ranked Colby College at 11:00 a.m.  The Mules stand 15th in the Northeast.
