Box Score NORTON, MA- Sophomore Emily Asack (Stoughton,
MA/Stoughton) tied a school record with four goals,
leading the Wheaton College field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over
visiting Simmons College on Thursday at Clark Field. The Lyons
moved to 2-0 for the fourth straight season, while the Sharks
slipped to 0-2.
Juniors Margaux Bolte (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and
Jessica Strock (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) also
scored for the Lyons, while senior Andrea Bagley (Foxboro,
MA/Foxboro) made three stops for the shutout. Wheaton held
advantages of 36-3 in shots and 10-3 in penalty corners. Simmons
freshman Molly Maidman (West Hartford, CT/Hall)
recorded 10 saves.
Asack netted the game-winner after just 2:18, taking a feed from
freshman Alex Smith (Suffield, CT/Suffield),
before Strock made it 2-0 just 4:30 later. Asack recorded a natural
hat trick in putting the Lyons up by five, scoring her second
marker of the game during the 15th minute by redirecting senior
Alex Block's (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) pass to the
far post.
In the 22nd minute, senior back Cassie Abel's (Windham,
NH/Salem) free hit was deflected home by Asack. The
sophomore forward finished off her record-tying day at 49:13
following a penalty corner, as Asack became the sixth player in
program history to tally four times. Bolte blasted in the final
goal during the 58th minute from the top of the circle.
With a brief two-game homestand complete, the Lyons hit the road
for the next four contests, next returning to Norton on September
26. Wheaton is back in action on Tuesday at the University of
Massachusetts at Dartmouth under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
