Box Score NEWTON, MA- Junior Jessica Strock (Centerville,
MA/Barnstable) broke a 27th-minute tie before netting the
winner less than 10 minutes later to lead the Wheaton College field
hockey team past Lasell College, 4-2 on Saturday at Grellier Field.
The Lyons improved to 3-1 while staying undefeated in four meetings
with the Lasers. The hosts remained winless at 0-3.
Strock tallied two goals and an assist for Wheaton, while
sophomore Emily Asack (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton)
notched one marker and two helpers. Senior Andrea Bagley
(Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) made four saves.
The Lyons held advantages of 24-9 in shots and 10-1 in penalty
corners, pressing Lasell sophomore keeper Erin Norton
(Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) into making 10 stops.
Senior Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) put
Wheaton in front after 9:49, with the marker tying her for sixth in
program history with 21 career tallies. She also moved into a tie
for eighth in school annals with 50 points.
Lasell knotted the contest in the 20th minute, but Strock struck
off an Asack feed at 26:48 to put the Lyons on top heading into
intermission. The tandem converted the eventual game-winner just
9:30 later, with Strock's second marker making it 3-1 at 36:18. The
hosts forged a one-goal game at 40:11, but Asack produced the final
tally at 49:52 thanks to Strock's assist.
Wheaton is off until next weekend, when the Lyons head to the
William Smith College Classic in New York. The Blue and White
opposes Saint Lawrence University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and
takes on the hosts on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
