Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team featured two outside hitters with eight kills as senior Mary Caroline Mazzanti (New Orleans, La.) and first year Maddy Botelho (Swansea, Mass.) led the Lyons' offense in Tuesday's 3-0 (23-25, 16-25, 20-25) loss at UMass Dartmouth.

Wheaton falls to 3-3 overall with the loss, while UMass Dartmouth improves to 3-1 overall with the win. 

Botelho and Mazzanti were the offensive leaders for the Lyons with their 16 combined kills. Senior Ajsa Orbán (Budapest, Hungary) and sophomore Emily Cordell (Crawfordville, Fla.) split the setting duties once again and each finished with six assists. Senior libero Jackie Hochberg (Tampa, Fla.) took home 10 digs to lead the Lyons and even helped the offense out with four assists.

Corsairs senior Allison Pate (Sebring, Fla.) led the hosts with nine kills on .238 hitting percentage. Junior Olivia Seutter (Mesa, Ariz.) had eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage to lead the hosts in efficiency while senior Skye Peters (Albuquerque, N.M.) had 24 assists to lead the floor in that category. First year libero Brooke Harrington (Walpole, Mass.) had a game-high 11 digs as she anchored the Dartmouth defense.

Two kills from Mazzanti and a service ace from Botelho started Wheaton off on the right foot in set one. The Lyons controlled the early phases of the frame but ceded the lead after a Peters kill and service ace put her side up 9-8. The Lyons would not lead again in the first set, and suffered from seven consecutive points by the Corsairs. A 5-0 run by the Lyons kept them within reach, but both attacking and service errors prevented them from reaching set point. Despite both teams recording 10 kills in the first set, the Lyons fell 25-23. 

A kill by Mazzanti and an ace from Orbán had Wheaton in the lead again to start the second set. In a similar fashion to the opening set, however, the lead was short-lived. Two kills from Pate and two Wheaton errors gave Dartmouth the lead again, but Botelho was able to tally another kill to keep the Lyons down by a single point at 8-7. From there, the Corsairs exploded for a 7-3 run, giving them command of the second set at 15-10. Orbán slipped a service ace past the defense to briefly break the hosts' momentum, but a 5-0 run quickly swept away hopes of a comeback. A Wheaton service error ended the set, and the Corsairs took a 2-0 lead after the 25-16 set win. 

The third set began much like how the second set ended as the Lyons made three straight errors at the start. Two kills from Seutter and a Wheaton attacking error quickly doubled the hosts' lead before each team exchanged errors as the Corsairs stayed in control of the lead. Botelho and Mazzanti each recorded kills down the stretch, but the hosts were able to ride off the momentum of their early scoring run to hang on for the match win. The Corsairs downed the Lyons 25-20 in the third and final set of the evening. 

Wheaton will take the rest of the week off before the return to the floor on Saturday morning at Bridgewater State at 11:00 AM. The Corsairs will stay in Dartmouth for their next match as they look to make it two wins in a row versus NEWMAC competition with a match against W.P.I. at 6:00 pm on Friday.
