MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) baseball player Aiden Cardoza (Dartmouth, Mass.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 6-12, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
The honor marks the second time that Cardoza has earned the award after being tabbed last season for the week of March 31 to April 6.
In his only appearance of the week for the Lyons, the left-hander was outstanding, hurling seven innings of five-hit shutout ball, while striking out five batters and walking no one in a victory over visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute on April 11. The junior held the Engineers to a paltry .192 (5-26) batting mark and did not allow a runner past second base in the outing.
The Bishop Stang High School product has been one of the best pitchers in the league this season, owning a perfect 3-0 record to rank sixth in victories, while posting a 3.12 earned run average to rank fourth among NEWMAC pitchers. Cardoza has tossed 34 2/3 innings to place fifth among conference foes and has allowed just four walks for the lowest total of any starting pitcher in the conference. In fact, Cardoza's excellent control places him 16th in the nation with just 1.04 walks per nine innings pitched. The Business major also ranks 43rd with a 5.25 strikeout to walk ratio. Cardoza has made six appearances on the season – all starts – and has thrown five or more innings in each of his last five outings following his season debut. He has not surrendered more than one free pass in any outing in 2026 and has allowed six or fewer hits on three occasions. The Southeastern Massachusetts native has struck out 21 batters, while holding opponents to a .285 (41-144) batting mark and owns a 1.30 walks+hits per innings pitched rate.
For his career, Cardoza owns a 10-8 record in 27 appearances, while making 26 starts. He has 79 strikeouts in 146 innings pitched, while issuing only 30 walks. He also has one complete game to his credit for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 14 when they host Emerson College at Sidell Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
