Women's Lacrosse Slips Versus Coast Guard, 18-10

NORTON, Mass. -- Senior Day celebrations were held ahead of the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game versus Coast Guard, but the Lyons fell 18-10 as the Bears took the win on Sunday afternoon.

Wheaton dropped to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the NEWMAC with the loss while the Bears improved to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the league after the win.

Senior Jessica Chamberlin (Bow, N.H.) led the Lyons with three goals and an assist. Fellow senior Sara Spielman (Norwalk, Conn.) also took home a hat-trick of goals while senior Bridget McDwyer (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) had two assists. Senior Riley Killbourn (Madison, Conn.) also netted a goal as the Class of 2026 shared the wealth. Senior goalkeeper Katie Geis (Duxbury, Mass.) made three saves in her senior day start. In addition, seniors Katie Hallee (Norway, Maine), Kayleigh York (Scarborough, Maine), Natalie Bilodeau (Scarborough, Maine), Kristina Krochko (Pembroke, Mass.) and Francesca Freeman (Portland, Maine) were also honored prior to the contest for Wheaton.

Coast Guard had only four scoring players, but the quartet made their impact more than felt. Senior Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) had the game-high in points with six goals and six assists. First year Joely Schaumloffel (Remsenberg, N.Y.) had one more goal than her teammate with seven while picking up two assists. Sophomore Rileigh Leary (Holden, Mass.) had two goals and three assists while senior Isabella Judge (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a hat-trick of goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Kailee Heron (West Islip, N.Y.) made seven saves while playing the entire contest.

Coast Guard began the scoring just 69 seconds into the affair as Judge slipped one past Geis in the first quarter. 58 seconds later, the Lyons found an answer as Chamberlin converted a man-up chance into a goal. Killbourn's goal came from a free position shot, which she deftly bounced past Heron to give Wheaton a 2-1 lead. McAllister scored her first of the game halfway through the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2, but McDwyer was able to assist sophomore Emma-Jane Parsons (Oakland, Maine) to give Wheaton the lead at 3-2. The lead was short lived as the Bears had another man-up chance, which Judge again converted into a goal. McAllister scored her second of the quarter to put Coast Guard ahead briefly, but Spielman scored her first goal of the game a minute later to preserve the tie at the break.

The Lyons were held off the board in the second quarter. Geis made one save in the frame as the Bears scored seven. The Lyons took the halftime break to reconvene and reset after falling behind 11-4.

Spielman kicked off the scoring in the second half with a free position shot, setting the tone for the third quarter. Chamberlin picked up another goal two minutes later, but McAllister was able to convert her free-position shot to make it a wash. Chamberlin scored again with less-than three minutes in the quarter, but two more goals from Schaumstoffel made it a 14-7 contest heading into the final frame

Spielman sparked the Wheaton offense again in the fourth quarter as she scored five minutes into the frame. Wheaton rattled off two quick goals to make it 14-10 halfway through the fourth quarter, but Coast Guard was able to close out the game with four unanswered goals. The Lyons fell to the Bears on senior day 18-10.

The Lyons will play in their penultimate conference game up in Cambridge on Wednesday, April 15 as they take on MIT at 5:00 p.m. Coast Guard will take on Clark in Worcester on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
