Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team was defeated by No. 4 Augustana College (Ill.), 26-1, this morning at host Washington & Jefferson College's Henry Natatorium in Washington, Pa.
The Lyons fall to 0-12, while the Vikings improve to 15-3.
Sophomore Ryanna Ritting (Perkasie, Pa.) netted a goal and came up with four steals to lead Wheaton. Sophomore Isobelle Jennings (Leeds, U.K.) registered three steals. First year goalie Anduena Kraja (Chicago, Ill.) stopped four shots and picked up a steal for the Lyons.
Sophomore attacker Abigail Gatlin (Pearland, Texas), junior attacker Mary King (Bakersfield, Calif.) and junior utility player Jersey Merrick (Chicago, Ill.) each netted a trio of goals to lead Augustana.
The Vikings scored all five goals in the first quarter, including the fifth marker netted by first year attacker Cindy King (Bakersfield, Calif.). Augustana continued its offensive assault with eight straight markers from eight different scorers in the second quarter to take a 13-0 advantage.
Ritting put Wheaton on the board with a goal coming with 5:34 left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 14-1. The Vikings netted the final three markers of the third quarter, capped by a goal from senior center defender Annie Opal Dickson (Imperial Beach, Calif.) to increase their cushion to 17-1. Augustana netted the final nine goals of the contest in the fourth quarter, getting two each from senior utility player Charlotte Newport (Baytown, Texas), Gatlin and Mary King.
The Lyons will be in action again later today when they take on Carthage College at 6:20 p.m., while the Vikings play Connecticut College at 1:00 p.m.
