MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team suffered a pair of losses in a double-dual meet to host Wesleyan University, 166-68, and University of Bridgeport, 109-103, this afternoon at Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn.
The Lyons fall to 3-7 on the season, while Wesleyan is 3-5 and Bridgeport improves to 5-6.
Wheaton was led by senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.), who ruled the distance events with wins in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle. Dalton posted a winning time of 11:03.47 in the 1000, before touching first in the 500 with a mark of 5:23.22.
Wheaton's 400-yard freestyle relay placed second overall and defeated Bridgeport with a time of 3:47.43 behind senior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio), first year Lauren Bullins (Lenexa, Kan.), Dalton and junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.). Bullins also topped Bridgeport and was second overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:02.84.
Junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) outswam the Bridgeport side in the 200-yard backstroke and was fourth overall with a clip of 2:20.38. Senior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) placed second overall in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.08 to finish less than a second behind Dalton, while recording a time of 11:16.04 to place third overall and second against Bridgeport in the 1000-yard freestyle. St. Jean placed third overall and second to both Wesleyan and Bridgeport in the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.14 effort.
First year Ella Kent (Framingham, Mass.) led the Lyons in the diving with a runner-up showing on the one-meter board with a tally of 166.12 points.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Tuesday, January 20 when it hosts Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 6:30 p.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
