Women's Water Polo

Eight from Women's Water Polo Receive Academic Honors from ACWPC and CWPA

NORTON, Mass. — Eight members of the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team have received All-Academic Honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and the Collegiate Water Polo Association, it was announced by the ACWPC and the CWPA. 

The Lyons were also recognized for a Team All-Academic Award by both organizations.

Individual honors are divided into three categories: Student-athletes earn an Outstanding designation for having earned a grade point average in the 4.0 - 3.71 range, while those achieving a 3.70 - 3.41 GPA are deemed Superior. In addition, student-athletes, who have compiled a GPA of 3.40 - 3.20 receive Excellent accolades.

The team honor is awarded to institutions that post a 3.0 or higher GPA. 

Wheaton has boasted eight or more honorees in each of its first two seasons as a varsity program by both the ACWPC and the CWPA.

Four Lyons earned the highest-tiered "Outstanding" designation.

Sophomore goalie Amelia Brown (Acton, Mass.) was recognized in this category for the second straight season. The Psychology major made 14 saves in five matches in net, while also adding two goals and an assist in the field. First year utility player Isobelle Jennings (Leeds, U.K.) saw action in all 13 matches and netted a goal to go with an assist. The Pre-Med Psychology major added 11 steals. Sophomore utility player Scout Lowrie (Franklin, N.J.) saw time in five contests after completing her season with artistic swimming. The Biology, Public Health, Psychology major attempted one shot for Wheaton. First year utility player Charlotte Monty (Clinton, Conn.) tallied four points, including a pair of goals in 13 matches. The Biology major added three steals and a drawn exclusion. 

For the second straight year, the Lyons also placed four in the "Superior" category.

Senior center Izabella Agraz (Moraga, Calif.) netted a career-high 16 goals in 13 games and was honored in this category for the second time. The Anthropology major drew eight exclusions to help ignite Wheaton's offense. Junior center Issabel Babikova (South Portland, Maine) moved up to "Superior" designation after being honored in the "Excellent" group a year ago. She racked up a team-record 18 assists to go with three goals. A Neuroscience major, she also came up with 14 steals. Junior attacker Josephine Basco (Painesville, Ohio) competed in five games after joining the squad following artistic swimming. The Neuroscience major was recognized last year in this group as well and scored a goal, while assisting on another. First year center Ryanna Ritting (Perkasie, Pa.) was outstanding in her rookie campaign, earning Collegiate Water Polo Association All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. The Communications and Digital Media major netted a school-record 24 goals and added 13 assists and 44 steals. 

Wheaton completed just its second season of varsity play after its inaugural campaign in 2024. The Lyons posted a 0-13 record and competed in the CWPA Championship Tournament for the second straight year.
