Agraz Breaks School Record for Single-Game Goals in 18-9 Loss to Penn. State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. — Senior center Izabella Agraz (Moraga, Calif.) tallied a school-record six goals for the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team in an 18-9 loss to host Pennsylvania State University Behrend at the PSB Invitational in the Junker Center in Erie, Pa.

The Lyons drop to 0-3 on the season, while the Lions improve to 2-5.

First year center Ryanna Ritting (Perkaskie, Pa.) netted three goals to also contribute for Wheaton.

First year utility player Priscilla Gil (Chicago, Ill.) led Penn. State Behrend with four goals, while senior driver Nic Darrell (Perkaskie, Pa.) and sophomore utility player Makenzie Rickerd (Rockford, Mich.) each scored three goals.

The Lions scored the first three goals of the contest, including a marker from Darrell at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter to make it 3-0. Ritting put the Lyons on the board with 4:37 to play in the first period to cut the deficit to 3-1. PSB first year utility player Baileigh Marino (Erie, Pa.) traded goals with Ritting to keep the margin a two-goal contest after one quarter of play.

The Lions ripped off six straight goals to start the second quarter to put distance between themselves and Wheaton. First year utility player Mikaela Hernandez (Ontario, Calif.) scored with 1:13 to play in the quarter to cap the run and give Penn. State Behrend a 10-2 advantage. Agraz found the back of the net for the Lyons for their only goal of the period coming with 64 seconds left in the quarter to make it a 10-3 difference.

Darrell and Agraz traded markers in the third quarter, before sophomore utility player Dylan Scherping (Harleysville, Pa.) also exchanged goals with Agraz to keep it a seven-goal margin at 12-5. Gil tallied the final goal of the quarter before PSB netted the first three markers to open the fourth quarter, including a goal from sophomore utility player Lauren True (Denton, Texas) to give the home team a 16-5 cushion for the Lions' largest lead of the contest. 

Agraz scored back-to-back goals for Wheaton to cut the margin to 16-7 with 3:03 to go in the game. Agraz continued to feel the hot hand, scoring the final two markers of the game for the Lyons to pull them within 17-9 with 1:41 showing on the fourth quarter clock. Rickerd tallied the final goal of the morning for Penn. State Behrend with 76 seconds left in the contest.

Wheaton wraps up its weekend with a 12:00 p.m. match with Grove City College, while the Lions take on Connecticut College at 1:20 p.m.
