Ritting Scores Three for Women's Water Polo in 26-5 Loss to Austin

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team was defeated by Austin College, 26-5, this afternoon in a Collegiate Water Polo Association match at host Grove City College's James E. Longnecker Competition Pool in Grove City, Pa.

The Lyons fall to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the league, while the Kangaroos have won eight in a row and improve to 10-7 and 7-0.

First year center Ryanna Ritting (Perkasie, Pa.) led Wheaton with three goals, while sophomore utility player Charlotte Monty (Clinton, Conn.) netted a pair of goals.

Junior center Bianca Gallegos (Albuquerque, N.M.) led all players with five goals for Austin. First year attacker Lexy Hulse (Perkasie, Pa.) and first year attacker Camila Diarte (San Antonio, Texas) each tallied three goals for the Kangaroos.

Austin scored the first six goals of the game, including three from Gallegos to give the Kangaroos a 6-0 lead with 3:10 left in the opening quarter. Ritting put the Lyons on the board with a score coming at the 2:47 mark of the quarter. Hulse and Ritting traded goals prior to the end of the period, before Austin netted the final two markers of the quarter to take a 9-2 lead.

The Kangaroos scored the next nine goals, including all six of the second quarter, to extend their string to 11 straight markers. Gallegos, sophomore attacker Sofia Guzman (Aubrey, Texas) and first year attacker Mikayla Arizmendi (San Antonio, Texas) each netted a pair of goals during the stretch that gave Austin an 18-2 advantage with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter.

Ritting ended Wheaton's scoring drought with 5:44 to go in the quarter to cut the deficit to 18-3. 

The Kangaroos ripped off the next six goals, including two from Diarte, to inflate their cushion to 24-3 with 4:22 to play in the game. Monty scored back-to-back markers for the Lyons to pull them within 24-5, before Austin tallied the final two goals of the contest.

Wheaton returns to the pool at 6:20 p.m. to take on Carthage College, while the Kangaroos return to Grove City tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. to play Washington & Jefferson College.
