Women's Lacrosse Thwarted at Framingham State, 10-7

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's lacrosse team was defeated, 10-7, by host Framingham State University this afternoon at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Mass.

Wheaton drops to 0-3 on the season while the Rams improve to 1-2.

Each team attempted 27 shots in the match, while Framingham State held a 28-23 margin in ground balls.

Sophomore attack Georgia Qua (Suffield, Conn.) led the Lyons with three goals and added an assist, while senior attacker Lara Finnie (Westfield, Mass.) had two goals and two assists for Wheaton. 

Senior midfielder Molly Lanier (Tyngsboro, Mass.) led the Rams with four goals and an assist to go with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while senior attacker Hailey Baker (Peabody, Mass.) tallied four points on a goal and a game-high three assists in addition to four ground balls.

FSU led 1-0 and 2-1 before Finnie tied the game both times in the first period and the game was tied 2-2 after one quarter.

Framingham State scored three goals by three different players in the second quarter taking a 5-2 lead at halftime.

Wheaton closed the deficit to just a goal with a pair of third quarter markers by first year midfielder Emma-Jane Parsons (Oakland, Maine) cutting the margin to 5-4 heading to the fourth quarter.

The teams, which scored nine total goals in the first three quarters, combined for eight goals in the fourth.

Lanier scored three straight goals in the first 2:07 to start the fourth quarter, including a pair in the first 56 seconds of the period and the Rams pushed the lead to 8-4 with 12:53 left. 

Wheaton didn't go quietly as Finnie scored with 11:46 left before a goal from Qua with 5:26 remaining made the score 8-6.

Lanier scored her fourth goal of the quarter before Finnie answered to keep it a two-goal deficit at 9-7 with 2:10 left. Baker scored the final goal of the game with 45 seconds left to put the game away for Framingham State. 

Sophomore Jenna Langan (Lincoln, R.I.) had 11 saves in goal for Wheaton, while junior attack Riley Kilbourn (Madison, Conn.) led the Lyons with five ground balls and Parsons added four. 

First year attack Madeline Bosma (Orange, Conn.) added a pair of goals for Framingham State. Junior Bella DiMare (Wakefield, Mass.) made 12 saves and got the win in goal for the Rams.

Wheaton is back in action on Monday, March 10 when it heads to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester State University at 4:30 p.m., while Framingham State will travel to Willimantic, Conn. to play Eastern Connecticut State University on March 12 for a 4:00 start.
