SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team fell to host Springfield College, 146-143, and United States Coast Guard Academy, 205-80, this afternoon in a double dual meet at Art Linkletter Natatorium in Springfield, Mass.
The Lyons fall to 1-4 on the season, while Coast Guard improves to 6-0 and Springfield is now 1-2.
Senior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) placed first against both Springfield and Coast Guard with a time of 11:14.70 in the 1000-yard freestyle and also finished first against Springfield in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:21.89 for Wheaton. Her time was good for second against Coast Guard. Senior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) also claimed first in two events against Springfield, while topping all swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle. She swam a mark of 1:58.88 in the 200-yard freestyle and was first against Springfield with a clip of 2:11.35 in the 200-yard backstroke.
First year Margeaux Anselmi (Pearl River, N.Y.) placed ahead of Springfield in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:26.91 and was second against the Pride with a time of 2:25.63 in the 200-yard individual medley. Junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) clocked in at 2:23.03 to finish ahead of Springfield in the 200-yard IM.. Senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) placed second in both the 1000-hard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle to give the Lyons a one-two finish in the events with Van Holland against Springfield.
Wheaton placed ahead of Springfield in both relays. Stone, Anselmi, Morton and junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) combined for a time of 4:17.93 in the 400-yard medley relay. The Lyons did the same in the 400-yard freestyle relay behind Stone, Dalton, Van Holland and St. Jean, who turned in a time of 3:48.63.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Saturday, November 15 when it heads to Lewiston, Maine to take on Bates College at 1:00 p.m.
