LEWISTON, Maine – The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's swimming & diving team was defeated by host Bates College, 159-45, this afternoon at Tarbell Pool in Lewiston, Maine.
The Lyons drop to 2-3 on the season, while the Bobcats move to 1-0 after their season opener.
Wheaton senior Brian Hixson (Scituate, Mass.) tallied a team-high seven points, including a second-place finish with a time of 46.73 in the 100-yard freestyle. He added a third-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:49.02.
Junior Kevin Rice (Vienna, Va.) and senior Andrew Tran (Milton, Mass.) both contributed with five points each for the Lyons. Rice finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.49 in addition to a mark of 1:50.26 to place fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Tran placed third in the 200-yard individual medley behind a clip of 2:01.93, while placing fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke after hitting the wall at 1:00.75. First year Marcus Tran (Milton, Mass.) joined Hixson with a second-place effort, clocking in at 21.41 to finish as the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle.
Wheaton's 200-yard freestyle relay placed second with a time of 1:25.41 behind Marcus Tran, senior Gavin Cullinan (Cumming, Ga.), senior Will Larson (Iowa City, Iowa) and Hixson.
The Lyons return to the pool on Friday, November 21 when they host the Fisher Invitational at 10:00 a.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
