NORTON, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team was defeated by visiting Wellesley College, (181-91) and Bentley University (167-118) this evening in a double-dual meet at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons fall to 0-2 following their season opener. The Blue also defeated Bentley, 169.50-116.50, and improve to 2-0, while the Falcons are now 1-1.
Senior Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) was Wheaton's top scorer against Wellesley, while scoring the second-highest total against Bentley with 16 points each. Van Holland clocked in at 11:12.86 to place second against Wellesley and third against Bentley in the 1000-yard freestyle, while winning the 100-yard freestyle against Bentley and was third against Wellesley in the race with a time of 58.42. Her final individual race saw her finish first against Wellesley and second against Bentley in the 500-yard freestyle on a mark of 5:29.18.
Senior Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) placed first against both Bentley and Wellesley in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.03) and was first in the 200-yard backstroke against Bentley with a time of 2:12.54, while placing second against Wellesley in the event. She finished with 18 points against Bentley and 13 against Wellesley. Senior Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.) racked up 13 points against Wellesley and 12 against Bentley. She placed first against both schools in the 1000-yard freestyle with a clip of 11:11.12, before finishing second against Wellesley and third against Bentley with a time of 5:34.57 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Junior Kaleigh Morton (Milford, Conn.) scored 11 points against Bentley with a pair of second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.68) and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.97) to go with a third-place effort in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.64.). Junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) finished first against Bentley in the 50-yard freestyle and was third in the race against Wellesley with a time of 26.29. First year diver Ella Kent (Framingham, Mass.) made her collegiate debut with a score of 122.55 points on the one-meter board to place second against Wellesley and third against Bentley.
The Lyons defeated Bentley in both relays. They opened the meet with a time of 1:53.27 in the 200-yard medley relay behind Morton in the lead backstroke, senior Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio) in the breaststroke, Stone in the butterfly and St. Jean in the freestyle anchor. Stone, Lambert-Shemo, St. Jean and Dalton all combined to post a mark of 1:43.44 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to top Bentley to close out the meet.
Senior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) led Wellesley with a pair of first place finishes. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.84 and touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:28.27. First year Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a sprint of 25.85 and added a runner-up showing in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.12. Classmate Alexis Kung (Briarcliff, N.Y.) placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.09) and senior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) finished first with a time of 1:00.69 in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior diver Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) topped the field on the one-meter board with a tally of 188.25 points. The Blue turned in the top time in both relays. Wellesley began the meet with a time of 1:50.32 in the 200-yard medley relay behind Liu, Sekhom, first year Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and classmate Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.). Dela Cruz, Sekhon, Kung and Liu combined to record a winning mark of 1:42.33 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Senior Caroline Ubert (Columbus, Ohio) and senior Taylor White (Warwick, Bermuda) led the Bentley swimmers. Ubert placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:21.23 and was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:03.29. White topped all swimmers in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.67 and touched second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.23 to go with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.91. Junior Rishika Moorthy (San Jose, Calif.) posted the highest mark on the three-meter board with a score of 159.49 after finishing second on the one-meter board for the Falcons with a score of 145.45 points.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Saturday, November 1 when it travels to Bridgewater, Mass. to take on Bridgewater State University at 2:00 p.m. Wellesley swims again on November 8 when it hosts Simmons University at 11:00 a.m. and Bentley hosts Assumption University on November 2 at 1:00 p.m.
