NORTON, Mass. — Nine members of the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team have received All-Academic Honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, it was announced by the ACWPC.
The Lyons were also recognized for a Team All-Academic Award.
Individual honors are divided into three categories: Student-athletes earn an Outstanding designation for having earned a grade point average in the 4.0 - 3.71 range, while those achieving a 3.70 - 3.41 GPA are deemed Superior. In addition, student-athletes, who have compiled a GPA of 3.40 - 3.20 receive Excellent accolades.
The team honor is awarded to institutions that post a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Wheaton's team mark of 3.63 ranks as the 14th-highest in the nation among all Divisions, while ranking seventh for a Division III institution.
Four Lyons earned the highest-tiered "Outstanding" designation.
First year Ava Biancheri (Westborough, Mass.) was Wheaton's second-leading scorer with 12 goals and netted the first goal in school history on March 6 vs. Connecticut College. First year goalie Amelia Brown (Acton, Mass.) recorded six or more saves on four occasions and also recorded an assist for the Lyons in their inaugural campaign in 2024. First year Piper Rakip (Shirley, Mass.) played in every match for Wheaton as a utility player, while sophomore Co-Captain Savannah Sedlock (Fairfax, Va.) tallied three markers from the attack position.
A quartet of Lyons were also tabbed as "Superior".
Junior Izabella Agraz (Moraga, Calif.) was a Co-Captain and netted four goals to go with an assist as a center for Wheaton, while Josephine Basco (Painesville, Ohio) joined the team mid-season following her campaign with the Lyon artistic swimming team. She netted a trio of goals for Wheaton. Sophomore Marina Greenwood (Santa Cruz, Calif.) was also coming off a successful artistic swim season, before joining Wheaton water polo and contributed with a goal. Junior Allie Taylor (Raleigh, N.C.) rounds out the Lyons honored by the ACWPC, who are multi-sport student-athletes for Wheaton, netting seven goals after being in the pool with the Lyons' swimming & diving team since October.
Sophomore Issabel Babikova (South Portland, Maine) was honored with the "Excellent" designation for Wheaton. The center scored three times during the season.
The Lyons competed in 13 contests during their first-ever campaign for Wheaton and earned an invitation to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship Tournament.
