ERIE, Pa. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's water polo team fell to Macalester College, 18-3, this evening in a Collegiate Water Polo Association match hosted by Pennsylvania State University Behrend at the Junker Center in Erie, Pa.
The Lyons slip to 0-8 on the season, including 0-6 in CWPA action, while the Scots improve 10-4 and 5-1.
Sophomore attacker Savannah Sedlock (Fairfax, Va.), junior Allie Taylor (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Marina Greenwood (Davis, Calif.) all scored for Wheaton.
First year attacker Molly Lemmon (Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore attacker Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich.) each netted three goals to lead Macalester.
Macalester opened the match with the first eight markers of the night, including all seven of the first quarter's goals. All three of Lemmon's markers came in the opening period. Junior attacker Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) also chipped in during the opening run with a pair of goals for the Scots.
The Lyons got on the board with 6:11 to go in the second quarter when Sedlock found the back of the net to pull within 8-1.
Macalester ripped off five straight goals to increase its lead to 13-1 with Nadolski leading the surge with a pair of goals.
Taylor cut the deficit to 13-2 with 3:59 showing in the third quarter for Wheaton.
The Scots tallied the next five scores, including two goals from senior attacker Gabriela Weiner (Chicago, Ill.).
Greenwood scored her first collegiate goal for the Lyons with 2:30 remaining in the contest to make the final score 18-3.
Wheaton returns to the water on April 7 at 8:00 a.m. when it takes on Augustana College, while Macalester plays tomorrow as well with a match at 11:45 a.m. against host Penn. State Behrend.
