STANDISH, Maine – Senior midfielder Robert Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.) netted his first goal of the season to give the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer team a 1-1 tie at host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) this afternoon at the Saint Joseph's Athletics Complex in Standish, Maine.
The Lyons remain unbeaten with their second straight tie and are now 0-0-2 on the season, while the Monks are 0-1-1.
Wheaton dominated the first half with an 11-2 shot advantage, but was unable to score, while Saint Joseph's managed to connect on one of its two attempts late in the opening stanza to take a 1-0 edge.
The Lyons knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 80th minute of play.
Senior forward Alberto Franceschi (Caracas, Venezuela) found Lloyd for the equalizing marker with 10:04 left to play in the match for Wheaton.
Lloyd attempted just two shots in the game, while sophomore midfielder Joey Everett (Danbury, Conn.) racked up five shots for the Lyons' offense. Wheaton owned a 16-6 shooting advantage for the match and held the Monks scoreless for the final 56:53 of the match.
Sophomore midfielder Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine) put Saint Joseph's on the board to give it a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute of play. It was one of just four shots on frame for the home team.
Sophomore keeper Michael O'Gara (Ardmore, Pa.) made three stops for Wheaton, while junior goalie Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) came up with six saves for Saint Joseph's.
The Lyons return to action on Tuesday, September 5 when they travel to Williamstown, Mass. to take on Williams College at 3:00 p.m., while the Monks host Dean College on the same day at 6:00 p.m.
