Softball Defeats Lesley, 10-0, to Complete Sweep

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. – Junior catcher Jill Ceddia (Hopkinton, Mass.) was 2-3 and knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) softball team to a 10-0 win over visiting Lesley University this afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader sweep at the Clark Softball Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. The contest was halted after five innings, due to the eight-run mercy rule.

The Lyons improve to 19-9 on the season, while the Lynx fall to 3-27.

Wheaton scored 29 runs on 29 hits and allowed just three hits in both games combined in the twinbill.

The Lyons scored a run in the bottom of the first in game two, before scoring twice in the second, four times in the third and three runs in the fourth for another double-digit scoring effort.

Ceddia collected her second double of the day in nightcap and also scored a run for Wheaton, while first year Amber Arcand (Millville, Pa.) also knocked in two runs and was 1-2 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Junior left fielder Allison Weston (West Islip, N.Y.) was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored and junior second base Bryanna Agan (Averill Park, N.Y.) contributed with a 2-3 effort, including two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored. First year starting pitcher Brittany Dost (Centereach, N.Y.) allowed just one hit in the first three innings of the game in addition to a pair of strikeouts and a walk to raise her mark to 3-0.

Agan laced a single up the middle, stole second and came around to score ahead of an RBI single up the middle to give the home team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first.

Wheaton tacked on two more runs in the second, thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI single off the bat of sophomore right fielder Juliette Zito (Woodbridge, Conn.) to make it 3-0.

Arcand highlighted a four-run third with a two-run triple as one of three triples in the game for the Lyons. Ceddia contributed with a run-scoring double following a lead-off triple from junior shortstop Lindsey Oliveira (Westport, Mass.) and Weston came through with an RBI single to plate Ceddia.

Wheaton scored the final three runs of the day in the fourth inning to take a 10-0 advantage. Agan ripped a leadoff single through the right side and later scored on a two-out triple to right-center from sophomore center fielder Grace DiBacco (Selkirk, N.Y.). First year first base Lily Platt (Hallowell, Maine) drew a walk to put runners on the corners and DiBacco stole home as Platt got hung up in a run-down, where she returned to first base safely. First year Maggie Caron (Boxford, Mass.) drove in the final run with an infield single to shortstop.

The Lyons return to action on Friday, April 21 when they head to Cambridge, Mass. to take on New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference rival Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a 3:00 p.m. twinbill, while the Lynx travel to Henniker, N.H. to play New England College on April 20 for a double-header at 3:00 p.m.
