WATERVILLE, Maine — Senior Sean Hill (Ellsworth, Maine) shattered his own school record in the 1650-yard freestyle by nearly three seconds to place second in the event and lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's swimming and diving team this evening in the third and final session of the Maine Collegiate Invite hosted by Colby College at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center Aquatics Center in Waterville, Maine.
The Lyons finished the two-day meet with a fifth-place effort after scoring 448.50 points over the three sessions. No. 20 Colby won the meet with 964.50 points, while University of Maine-Orono placed ahead of Wheaton with a tally of 590 points.
Not only did Hill break his own mark in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:22.49 for Wheaton, but he also eclipsed his record in the 1000-yard freestyle within the same race with a time of 9:52.53, which was also almost three seconds better than his previous mark. 
First year Kevin Rice Vienna, Va.) placed fifth in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 16:31.87 for the Lyons. Hill also placed in the 100-yard individual medley with a mark of 55.57 to finish 15th, while sophomore Andrew Tran (Milton, Mass.) placed 10th in the race with a time of 53.66 and senior Braxton Farrin (Walpole, Maine) turned in a personal-best time of 55.15 to finish 14th.
Tran touched the wall with a time of 2:11.35 to finish fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke, ahead of Rice's time of 2:13.50 which put him ninth in the race for Wheaton. Sophomore Brian Hixson (Scituate, Mass.) posted a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard freestyle with a clip of 46.85 and junior Anton Lopez (Oakland, Calif.) finished 10th after recording a time of 47.38. 
Sophomore Gavin Cullinan (Cummings, Ga.) registered a time of 1:57.27 to place sixth in the 200-yard backstroke for the Lyons, while first year Jadyn Arnold (Oakland, Maine) came in eighth with a time of 1:59.87 in the event. Farrin also placed 16th in the 200-yard butterfly following a time of 2:04.53.
Cullinan, Hixson, Hill and Lopez closed out the meet for Wheaton with a combined season-best time of 3:08.26 to finish fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Lyons will be off until after the New Year when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Clark University on Friday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m.
