WATERVILLE, Maine — The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's swimming & diving team maintained fifth place following the morning session of the Maine College Invite hosted by Colby College at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center Aquatics Center in Waterville, Maine.
The Lyons stand with 292.50 points with University of Maine-Orono holding strong in fourth place with a score of 333 points. No. 20 Colby leads the pack with 650 points.
Senior Sean Hill (Ellsworth, Maine) placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal-record time of 51.18 for Wheaton, while sophomore Gavin Cullinan (Cummings, Ga.) finished eighth in the final event of the session with a time of 53.18 in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Anton Lopez (Oakland, Maine) placed 10th in the race with a mark of 53.37.
The Lyons opened the day with a fifth-place effort in the 200-yard medley relay after posting a season-best mark of 1:34.74. Sophomore Andrew Tran (Milton, Mass.) led off with the 50-yard backstroke leg, before senior Ben Goho (Lincoln, R.I.) swam the breaststroke. Cullinan followed in the butterfly leg, before Lopez closed out the race in the freestyle anchor.
Goho also placed ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.67 for Wheaton to finish ahead of senior Aidan Carberry's (Narragansett, R.I.) time of 1:00.05 and first year Kevin Rice's (Vienna, Va.) mark of 1:00.60 to place 11th and 12th, respectively. Goho added a 19th-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle to his day on a personal-best time of 1:48.16. In addition, Rice finished ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:16.77.
The Lyons return to action tonight at 5:30 for the final session of the two-day meet.
