SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Juniors Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Morgen Coughlin-Doyle (Topsham, Maine) and sophomore Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) each won a pair of events over both host Springfield College (157.50-141.50) and Keene State College (232-67) in a double-dual sweep for the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team at Art Linkletter Natatorium in Springfield, Mass.
The Lyons improve to 5-2 on the season, while Springfield is now 1-4 after falling to Wheaton and defeating Keene State, 219-78. The Owls fall to 2-3.
Hartmann posted a time of 1:00.98 in the 100-yard backstroke and a mark of 2:11.44 in the 200-yard backstroke to win both races for the Lyons. Van Holland won both distance events with a time of 11:19.41 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 5:32.27 to take the 500-yard freestyle. Coughlin-Doye placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 250.90 points, before winning on the three-meter board as well with a tally of 248.25 points.
Wheaton senior Ana Curry (New Bedford, Mass.) topped all swimmers in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.50 and finished third in the 100-yard butterfly against Keene State with a time of 1:03.85. Junior Katie Walz (Bellevue, Wash.) turned in the top time of the day in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 58.79 and finished first against Keene State in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.45) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.02). Senior Meghan Dickinson (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed second overall in both breaststroke events and finished first against Keene State in both races with a time of 1:08.30 in the 100-yard race and 2:32.86 in the 200-yard event. Senior Lily Watson (Waterford, Conn.) placed second overall in the 200-yard freestyle and topped Keene State with a mark of 1:59.59 in addition to finishing second overall in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.77.
The Lyons closed the meet with the best time in the 400-yard freestyle relay behind sophomore Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.), Walz, senior Amelia Butler (New York, N.Y.) and Watson, who combined on a time of 3:37.18.
Wheaton also opened the afternoon with a victory over Keene State in the 200-yard medley relay. Hartmann led off with the backstroke, before Dickinson's breaststroke leg and junior Alexa DiCenso's (Methuen, Mass.) butterfly segment. Butler closed out the race with a 50-yard freestyle to complete a time of 1:50.53.
The Lyons return to the pool for the two-day Maine Meet, hosted by Colby College in Waterville, Maine on Friday, December 1.
