SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Andrew Tran (Milton, Mass.) topped both host Springfield College and Keene State College in a pair of events to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's swimming & diving team to a sweep over both schools this afternoon at Art Linkletter Natatorium in Springfield, Mass.
The Lyons improve to 3-3 on the season after defeating Springfield, 148.5-131.5, and Keene State, 212-58. Springfield is now 1-3 after a 225-58 win over Keene State, while the Owls fall to 2-3.
Tran won the 100-yard backstroke for Wheaton with a time of 54.22, before touching the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:14.69. He also placed second overall and first over Keene State in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.85.
Junior Anton Lopez (Oakland, Calif.) finished first over both schools for the Lyons with a time of 21.88 in the 50-yard freestyle, before placing second overall in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:00.94. Senior Ben Goho (Lincoln, R.I.) won the 100-yard breaststroke over all competitors with a time of 59.93 and finished second overall in the 200-yard breaststroke after clocking in at 2:17.54. Junior Sean Hill (Ellsworth, Maine) touched first ahead of all swimmers in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 53.28 and was third overall and second against Keene State in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:32.93) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.92). First year Jadyn Arnold (Oakland, Maine) defeated both schools in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.77 and placed third overall and second against Keene State with a mark of 2:05.78 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Gavin Cullinan (Cummings, Ga.) finished second overall for Wheaton and topped all Keene State swimmers in both the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.54 and the 500-yard freestyle with a clip of 4:57.65. He also placed third overall in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.41. Senior Braxton Farrin (Walpole, Maine) clocked in at 2:05.74 to defeat Keene State and place second overall in the 200-yard butterfly, while finishing third overall and second against Keene State in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.68. First year Kevin Rice (Vienna, Va.) put together a time of 10:25.92 to finish second overall in the 1000-yard freestyle and finish ahead of all Keene State competitors.
The Lyons opened and closed the meet with winning relays. Tran swam the lead backstroke, followed by Goho in the breaststroke and Cullinan in the butterfly to set up Lopez in the freestyle anchor to combine on a time of 1:36.52 in the 200-yard medley relay. Wheaton placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay behind Hill, sophomore Will Larson (Iowa City, Iowa), Lopez and sophomore Brian Hixson (Sciuate, Mass.) with a time of 3:10.66.
The Lyons return to the pool for the two-day Maine Meet, hosted by Colby College in Waterville, Maine on Friday, December 1.
