Women's Soccer Blanked at Emerson, 7-0

BOSTON, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer team was defeated by host Emerson College, 7-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play on Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.

The Lyons slip to 3-8-1 overall and 1-5 in league play, while the Lions improve to 5-5-1 and 3-1-1.

Emerson's goal total was its highest since an 8-0 shutout over Mount Holyoke College on September 21, 2019.

The Wheaton defense held the home team to just one goal through the first 63 minutes of play, before the Lions erupted for six goals in a 20-plus minute span to put the contest out of reach.

Senior forward Brittney Righetti (San Francisco, Calif.) netted three goals for Emerson, including a pair of goals within a span of 76 seconds.

The Lions owned a commanding 19-2 shot advantage and was awarded seven corner kicks to their guest's total of two.

First year Zoe Simmons (Los Angeles, Calif.) put Emerson on the board with 6:59 left to play in the opening half with her first collegiate goal for a 1-0 edge.

Junior midfielder Madeline Khaw (Portland, Ore.) found Righetti for her first marker of the afternoon in the 64th minute of play, before junior back Dylan Parker (Woodland Hill, Calif.) hooked up with her for her second score of the day in the 65th minute to give the Lions a 3-0 margin.

Khaw tallied a goal of her own less than five minutes after Righetti's second goal with number four on the season coming in the 70th minute for Emerson.

Righetti achieved her first collegiate hat trick in the 80th minute to increase the home team's cushion to five goals and junior midfielder Katie Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) scored just under two minutes later to give the Lions a 6-0 lead with her first goal of the year. Senior forward Gina Lukoskie (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scored just 108 seconds later with her first goal of the season to close out the day's scoring.

Junior forward Lily Brown (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore forward Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) each attempted a shot to pace the Lyons' offense.

Sophomore keeper Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) recorded six saves for Wheaton, while junior goalie Amara Schaub (Torrance, Calif.) stopped the only shot she faced for Emerson to post her third shutout of the season and 17th of her career.

The Lyons return to play on Wednesday, October 11 when they host Brandeis University at Mirrione Stadium for a 4:00 p.m. contest, while the Lions head to Babson Park, Mass. to play NEWMAC rival Babson College on the same day at 3:30 p.m.
