Wheaton dominated possession of the match, owning a 23-6 shot advantage, including just two shots allowed in the first half.
The Lyons got on the board in the first half when junior forward Luke Strange (Portland, Ore.) took a corner kick and skipped a cross into the box, where classmate Robert Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.) was able to direct it into the far left post for his first marker of the season. The goal came in the 19th minute to give the home team a 1-0 edge.
Wheaton held a 1-0 lead for the remainder of the half, before scoring again 19:30 into the second half for a 2-0 margin. Senior midfielder Jack Brusso (Pawtucket, R.I.) sent a thru-ball from midfield into the 18-box where sophomore forward Alasdair Ferrier (Concord, N.H.) tracked it down and flicked a shot inside the far right post for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The Lyons capped the scoring in the 72nd minute of play with their third tally of the night. First year midfielder Joey Everett (Danbury, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate point after finding senior midfielder Charlie Stringer (Medford, Ore.) streaking down the right side of the field with a pass across the top of the 18-box that Stringer fired inside the right post for his first goal of the season.
Gordon sophomore forward Benji Wright (Franklin, Tenn.) had the best opportunity to put the visitors on the board, but was stopped by Wheaton senior keeper Cam Millington (Fairfield, Conn.).
Millington stopped both shots that he faced in 83:40 of action for the Lyons, before yielding to first year goalie Michael O'Gara (Ardmore, Pa.), who turned away the only shot he saw in the final 6:20. First year Gunnar Lucuk (Southbury, Conn.) made nine saves in his first collegiate start for the Fighting Scots.
Wheaton returns to play on Saturday, September 10 when it travels to Bristol, R.I. to take on Roger Williams University at 3:00 p.m., while Gordon heads to Springfield College on the same day with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
