Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – First year goalkeeper Michael O'Gara (Ardmore, Pa.) registered his first collegiate shutout in a 0-0 tie with host Roger Williams University this afternoon at Bayside Field in Bristol, R.I.
The Lyons are now 3-1-1 on the season, while the Hawks are 1-0-2. The match did not go to an overtime period following the newly passed legislation by the NCAA, which relegates overtime to postseason play.
The 0-0 stalemate marked the first time that Wheaton and its opponent finished in a scoreless tie since a 0-0 result with Brandeis University on September 24, 2019 in Norton. The Lyons did not record a tie all of last season.
Despite a 9-4 advantage on corner kicks held by Wheaton, each team was even with nine shots apiece.
O'Gara came up with two saves in 90 minutes of action for the Lyons, while sophomore Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) also turned away both shots he faced to post his second career clean sheet for Roger Williams.
Junior forward Luke Strange (Portland, Ore.) fired four shots, including one on frame to pace the Wheaton offense, while senior midfielder Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) unleashed three shots, including one on net for the Hawks.
The Lyons return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 14 when they host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Keefe Field at 4:30 p.m., while Roger Williams heads to Worcester, Mass. tomorrow for a Noon kickoff with Clark University.
