Box Score NORTON, Mass. -- Senior starting pitcher Sarah Pritchard (Malta, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run and allowed just two runs in seven complete innings to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) softball team to a 7-2 victory over visiting Lesley University this afternoon in opening game of a doubleheader at the Clark Softball Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass. The Lyons win their fourth straight to improve to 16-11, while the Lynx fall to 10-9.
Lesley scored the first two runs of the game in the opening frame, but Wheaton scored three times in both the fourth and fifth innings to spell the margin in the game.
Sophomore third base Lindsey Oliveira (Westport, Mass.) led all players with three hits, including a triple, drove in a run and scored once, while Pritchard was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and gave up just four hits and a walk from the circle to go with five strikeouts to even her record at 5-5. Sophomore second base Bryanna Agan (Averill Park, N.Y.) was 2-4 with a run batted in and first year Grace DiBacco (Selkirk, N.Y.) plated a run with a triple as one of three triples in the game for Wheaton to fall just one short of the school-record for three-baggers in game by the team.
Pitcher Jordan Day (Seminole, Fla.) paced the Lynx, going 2-3 with a run scored, while Ilana Zack (Randolph, Mass.) doubled home a run. Day (7-4) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits and two walks in addition to seven strikeouts.
The Lyons scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Pritchard reached on an error to lead off the frame and raced around the bases ahead of a triple from senior first base Tristan Keller (Plymouth, N.H.). First year center fielder Juliette Zito (Woodbridge, Conn.) later singled to score senior pinch-runner Lilly Laganiere (Rochester, N.H.) to give Wheaton a 3-2 edge. The Lyons' fourth run came on a ground out for a two-run margin.
Wheaton struck for three more runs in the fifth to take a 7-2 advantage. Oliveira laced a single to left to start the inning and came around to score on a pinch-triple to right field off the bat of DiBacco. Pritchard ripped a line drive over the left field fence for her first long ball of the season to help her own cause with a five-run cushion for the Lyons.
The Lynx came out swinging to begin the game with first year catcher Megan Murphy (Dracut, Mass.) reaching on a bunt single, before Day singled to left to set up an RBI double to right off the bat of Zack for the first run of the day. Lesley's second run came on a ground out and the visitors owned a 2-0 lead before Wheaton had come to the plate.
