Ferrier Leads Men's Soccer over Rhode Island College, 2-0

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. — Sophomore Alasdair Ferrier (Concord, N.H.) netted a pair of goals in a 91-second span to give the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer team a 2-0 victory over visiting Rhode Island College this afternoon on Keefe Field on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons improve to 6-4-5 on the season and are unbeaten in six of their last seven contests, while the Anchormen fall to 2-7-4.

Wheaton dominated possession of the match with a 26-6 shot advantage, including a suffocating 14-1 in the second half. The Lyons chances were enhanced by a commanding 13-1 corner kick margin.

Ferrier's two-goal effort marks his third multi-goal match of the season.

Wheaton's first tally came in the 63rd minute of play at 62:13.

Junior forward Luke Strange (Portland, Ore.) carried the ball just inside the left side of the box, where he sent a low cross to the right post where Ferrier streaked in to meet the ball and put it into the back of the net.

Ferrier's field awareness led to his second marker of the day at 63:44. Senior midfielder Ewan Noble (Newport, R.I.) hurled a throw-in from the left sideline into the box, where a Rhode Island College defender directed it away from the goal-mouth with a header. The ball landed in the middle of the box where Ferrier quickly gathered it and ripped a low shot just inside the right post for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.

The Anchormen's only real scoring threat came in the 24th minute of the opening half when sophomore midfielder Jesus Guarcas (Providence, R.I.) lifted a shot that was punched away by first year Wheaton keeper Michael O'Gara (Ardmore, Pa.).

O'Gara finished the match with a pair of saves in 79:43 of action, before senior goalie Kris Stremple (Longmeadow, Mass.) stopped a shot in the final 10:17 of play for the Lyons. Junior keeper Jake Reed (Cumberland, R.I.) made nine saves for Rhode Island College.

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, October 22 when it hosts New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference foe United States Coast Guard Academy on Keefe Field at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day, while the Anchormen host Fitchburg State University on October 26 at 6:00 p.m.
