Box Score NORTON, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team lost the last three sets of a five-set match as visiting Western New England University came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-10) this afternoon at Emerson Gymnasium on the campus of Wheaton in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons fall to 9-10 on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 14-8.
Western New England hit .211 for the match, while Wheaton hit .192.
Senior right side hitter Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, Ill.) spiked for 14 kills on a .414 hitting clip and added five block assists to lead Wheaton. Junior outside hitter Annah Shaheen (Portsmouth, N.H.) was a dig short of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, while first year outside hitter Sydney Lyon (Weston, Conn.) put away nine kills and hit .400 to go with a pair of aces, four digs and two block assists. Junior setter Julianna Flack (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) set for a career-high 45 assists and came up with nine digs, while senior libero Sophie Wilhelm (Saunderstown, R.I.) scooped up 23 digs and fired a trio of aces.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Scott (Granby, Mass.) spiked for a match-high 20 kills and hit .260 to go with 12 digs for a double-double and two aces to lead the Golden Bears. Sophomore middle hitter Yemayma Molina (Lawrence, Mass.) put down 12 kills without an attack error for a gaudy .600 hitting mark, while junior setter Hailey Sell (Glen Allen, Va.) set for 39 assists, picked up 13 digs and swung for four kills. Junior libero Becca Mayer (Berlin, Conn.) got down for 20 digs and fired an ace.
The match was the first of a tri-match with both teams playing Eastern Connecticut State University later in the day.
