Box Score BRISTOL, Mass. -- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team hit .297 in a pivotal fourth set to knot the match at 2-2, before taking the fifth set, 15-11, en-route to a 3-2 (24-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11) victory over Salve Regina University this afternoon at the Roger Williams University Invitational at the Campus Rec Center in Bristol, R.I. The Lyons improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 0-1 in their season opener.
Wheaton committed just three attack errors in the fourth set to shift the momentum of the match. Sophomore Annah Shaheen (Portsmouth, N.H.) put together the best effort of her young career for the Lyons, putting down a career-high 12 kills on a .171 hitting mark to go with four digs and a pair of block assists in the match, while junior right side hitter Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, Ill.) continued her consistent hitting with 10 kills and just two attack errors to fuel a .286 attack percentage in addition to an ace and three total blocks.
Junior defensive specialist Sophie Wilhelm (Sauderstown, R.I.) anchored the Wheaton defense with a career-best 28 digs. Senior outside hitter Adara Hamilton (Mercer Island, Wash.) was outstanding on both sides of the ball for the Lyons with eight kills and an ace to go with 17 digs, while sophomore setter Zoë Franz (Noblesville, Ind.) helped guide the offense with 17 assists and added 16 digs, an ace and an assisted block. Junior defensive specialist Ariana Rajaee (Marlborough, Conn.) also contributed with three aces and 17 digs for Wheaton.
The Lyons get right back at it with a 2:00 p.m. match against host Roger Williams in Bristol, R.I.
