BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Wheaton College men's soccer team opened New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 loss at host Babson College this afternoon on Hartwell-Rogers Field in Babson Park, Mass. Wheaton falls to 4-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play, while the Beavers improve to 5-1-0 and 1-0-0 and extend their NEWMAC regular-season unbeaten streak to 15 straight.

The only goal of the match came just over 20 minutes into the second half following a corner kick by senior Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.). A Wheaton defender headed the initial ball but his clearance attempt didn't make it out of the box and senior Giancarlo Arguello (Key Biscayne, Fla.) sent a looping header over the head of the Lyons' keeper from 12 yards to give Babson the lead.  

The Beavers finished with a 14-4 edge in shots and attempted all four corner kicks in the match.

Wheaton's best chance to equalize came in the 88th minute but senior midfielder Charlie Stringer (Medford, Ore.) sent his sliding shot over the bar. 

Babson nearly took the lead in the 47th minute only to see sophomore Samuel Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) hit his first touch just wide of the right post off a feed from senior Ben Cawood (Santa Rosa, Calif.). First-year Matthew Thompson (Medfield, Mass.) forced a diving save from Lyons' senior goalie Diego Medina (Yonkers, N.Y.) in the 65th minute for the corner kick that led to Arguello's marker. 

Medina finished the day with three saves for Wheaton, while senior Itai Rubin (Briarcliff, N.Y.) was untested to earn his third clean sheet for the Beavers. 

The Lyons return to action on Tuesday, September 22 when they travel to Waltham, Mass. to play Brandeis University at 7:00 p.m., while Babson hosts Williams College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
