Box Score

NORTON, Mass. – Junior forward Avery Santoro (North Chatham, Mass.) factored into a pair of scores, including his first goal of the season to lead the Wheaton College men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Roger Williams University this afternoon on Keefe Field on the campus of Wheaton in Norton, Mass. The Lyons win their third straight match to improve to 3-1-0 for their best start to a season since 2016, while the Hawks fall to 0-2-2.

Wheaton dominated the match, outshooting its guests, 18-5, including a second half that saw the defense hold Roger Williams to just one shot, while the offense unleashed nine shots in the stanza to match the first half's output. The Lyons also owned a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Santoro found himself in the thick of Wheaton's scoring effort just before the end of the first half, assisting on the squad's first marker with a feed to senior forward Alex Nickerson (York, Maine) in the 40th minute. Santoro found the back of the net himself, less than three minutes later, after converting a penalty kick with just 2:17 remaining in the half to give the home team a 2-0 margin.

Senior midfielder Charlie Stringer (Medford, Ore.) increased the Lyons' lead to 3-0 with his second goal of the year coming in the 62nd minute. First year forward Alasdair Ferrier (Concord, N.H.) capped the day's scoring with his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to give Wheaton a 4-0 lead and become the ninth different player to score a goal in just four matches this season for the Lyons.

Senior keeper Diego Medina (Yonkers, N.Y.) registered his ninth career shutout with two saves for Wheaton, while Sophomore goalie Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) stopped eight shots for the Hawks.
