Box Score 2 Springfield, Mass- April 24, 2021- In a doubleheader matchup against Springfield College on Saturday afternoon, the Lyons split their games with the Pride winning game one by a score of 10-0, while the home team Springfield responded back in game two with a 9-2 victory. With the split Wheaton moved to 4-4 on the season in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
Game One: Wheaton 10, Springfield 0
Junior Pitcher Sarah Pritchard (Malta, N.Y.) tossed a gem throwing a no-hitter! Going six strong innings allowing no runs and striking out three hitters.
Wheaton took the early lead in the second inning as Pritchard stole home. Scoring two more runs in the third inning and breaking the game open in the sixth scoring six more runs. In the sixth Allicyn Cole (Douglas, Mass) roped a double to left field scoring one, followed by a three run double by Lindsay Whittles (Hopkinton, Mass). Securing a 10-0 victory.
Game 2: Wheaton 2, Springfield 9
In game two Springfield got the bats going scoring nine total runs in the shortened five inning game. Starter Sofia Knopf (Norton, Mass) recorded the loss giving up four hits along with four runs. Pritchard came in relief going 1.1 innings allowing five hits with four runs. Then followed Rahne Turley (Sandwich, Mass) giving up three hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Wheaton recorded their runs in the fourth on a Jill Ceddia (Hopkinton, Mass) single scoring Whittles followed by Pritchard scoring on a wild pitch.
Cole went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Wheaton returns to action facing WPI on May 1st with a doubleheader at WPI slated to start at noon.
