Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. -- Junior right side hitter Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, Ill.) spiked for a career-high 19 kills to fuel the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team to a comeback victory over host Clark University this afternoon in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match at Kneller Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass. The Lyons improve to 15-10 overall and 3-7 in league play to finish their season, while the Cougars fall to 13-12 and 4-6.
Clark earned the number six seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will travel to face third-seeded United States Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m.
Wheaton dropped two of the first three sets, before winning the final two to secure the win. The Lyons opened the match with a 25-19 first set win, before Clark won the next two, 25-16, 27-25. Wheaton won the fourth, 25-22, before taking the final frame, 15-10.
Madrzyk hit .289 for the match and added two block assists for a team-high 20 points. Senior outside hitter Adara Hamilton (Mercer Island, Wash.) closed out her career with a double-double of 15 kills and 20 digs to go with two aces and a block assist, while sophomore outside hitter Annah Shaheen (Portsmouth, N.H.) put down 10 kills and added four digs. Sophomore setter Zoë Franz (Noblesville, Ind.) set for a match-high 31 assists and picked up 11 digs to go with an ace. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Wilhelm (Saunderstown, R.I.) got down for 22 digs and fired an ace.
Junior Claudia Rivera led the Cougars with 14 kills and sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Liano added 11 kills. Senior Marimo Oka scooped up a match-high 24 digs for the Cougars, while senior setter Sophia Torino set for 29 assists.
