Box Score 2 WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team was defeated by Plymouth State University, 3-0, before it defeated host Eastern Connecticut State University this afternoon in tri-match action at Geissler Gymnasium in Williamantic, Conn. The Lyons are now 14-9 on the season, while Plymouth improves to 21-1 and Eastern Connecticut falls to 14-7.
Plymouth won in straight sets, 25-13, 27-25, 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Adara Hamilton (Mercer Island, Wash.) led Wheaton with 11 kills and added seven digs, an ace and a block, while senior middle hitter Haley McCreight (Greenville, R.I.) tallied seven points, including five kills and four block assists. Sophomore setter Zoë Franz (Noblesville, Ind.) set for 16 assists, fired a pair of aces and got down for six digs. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Wilhelm (Saunderstown, R.I.) picked up 10 digs.
The Lyons opened the match with a 25-12 win over Eastern Connecticut State, before the Warriors tied the contest with a 25-14 second set victory. Wheaton put its hosts away with wins in the third (25-21) and fourth sets (25-16).
Junior right side hitter Emily Hickey (Kennebunk, Maine) swung for a match-high 15 kills on a .333 hitting percentage to go with five digs and three block assists, while junior right side hitter Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, Ill.) put down eight kills, got up for five block assists and scooped up four digs to go with an ace. Junior setter Hannah George (Duxbury, Mass.) directed the offense with 20 assists, got down for nine digs and fired a pair of aces. Wilhelm added 21 more digs and served up two aces for Wheaton. Hamilton scored 11 points with six kills and a match-high five aces and added 16 digs.
The Lyons return to the hardwood on Tuesday, October 26 when they host New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference foe Emerson College at Emerson Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
