Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer team was edged in overtime at United States Coast Guard Academy, 2-1, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play on Nitchman Field in New London, Conn. The Lyons fall to 10-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in league play, while the Bears improve to 10-4-1 and 3-3-0 in league action.
Senior forward Alex Nickerson's (York, Maine) goal in the 36th minute was the only goal of the opening half. He took a cross from sophomore midfielder Gavin Mahoney (Carlsbad, Calif.) and chipped it over Coast Guard goalkeeper John Vaaler's head from right outside the 18 for a 1-0 Lyons' lead.
Senior Mike Daunt's goal with 23 seconds left in overtime gave Coast Guard a come-from-behind win, receiving the assist from senior Robbie Fugett.
The game-winning tally in overtime was set up by Gabe Gallant's marker in the 57th minute to knot the contest at 1-1 for the Bears. Gallant took a corner and Robbie Fugett headed the ball to Noah Engstrom who finished.
Wheaton senior goalkeeper Diego Medina (Yonkers, N.Y.) made a fantastic save in the 78th minute when Charles Fish blasted a shot heading to the upper left corner before Medina made a leaping save to keep the game tied. He finished with a career-high 13 saves for the match.
Junior goalie John Vaaler (Arnold, Md.) made three saves in the first half while sophomore keeper Josh Hudson (Tempe, Ariz.) recorded five saves and did not allow a goal in the second half and overtime for Coast Guard to get the win.

The Lyons return to action on Tuesday, October 26 when they host Framingham State University on Keefe Field at 3:30 p.m., while the Bears play the same day, hosting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the final game of the regular season at 6:00 p.m.
