Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Junior right side hitter Emily Hickey (Kennebunk, Maine) put down a match-high nine kills and senior outside hitter Adara Hamilton (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished with 11 points and hit .538 for the match to lead the Wheaton College women's volleyball team over host Framingham State University, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-13) today at the Athletic Center in Framingham, Mass. The Lyons improve to 11-5 on the season, while the Rams fall to 7-8.
Wheaton hit .281 as a team for the day and did not hit lower than .250 in any set.
Hickey hit .316 for the contest picked up a dig for the Lyons, while Hamilton spiked for eight kills and committed just one attack error and added a pair of aces, a block solo and five digs. Sophomore outside hitter Annah Shaheen (Portmouth, N.H.) put down seven kills, fueled by a .400 hitting mark and picked up four digs, while junior defensive specialist Sophie Wilhelm (Saunderstown, R.I.) got down for a match-best 11 digs to go with two aces. Sophomore setter Zoë Franz (Noblesville, Ind.) (19) and junior setter Hannah George (Duxbury, Mass.) (9) combined to set for 28 assists. Franz also fired three aces and picked up seven digs.
Junior outside hitter Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, R.I.) led Framingham State with six kills, three aces and a .263 hitting clip to go with seven digs. First year defensive specialist Isabel Henwood (Guaynabo, P.R.) led the Rams' defense with eight digs.
Wheaton dominated the opening set right away, taking a commanding 16-5 lead, fueled by four kills from Hickey. The Lyons maintained the margin for the remainder of the set.
The Lyons held a 13-12 edge midway through the second frame, before going on a 6-2 run to take a 19-14 advantage. Framingham State later pulled to within 24-21, but a kill from sophomore outside hitter Julianna Flack (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) gave Wheaton the second set and a 2-0 match lead.
The Rams scored the first point of the third set to give them their only lead of the day. The teams were later tied at 3-3, but the Lyons put together a 9-3 stretch, paced by two kills each from Hamilton and junior right side hitter Bailey Madrzyk (Barrington, Ill.), to give Wheaton a 12-5 advantage. An ace from Framingham State's Thomas brought the home team to within 15-11, but the Lyons closed out the set with a 10-2 blitz to take the frame and the match. Hamilton put down a pair of kills and serve up an ace during the final stretch.
Wheaton will take on Wentworth Institute of Technology in the next match at Framingham State as part of tri-match play.
