Women's Basketball Celebrates 34th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day

NORTON, Mass.- The Wheaton College women's basketball team fell to Smith College, 79-52, Wednesday night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

First-year Bri Forbes finished with a team-high 15 points, which included hitting 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Sadie Shore ended the night with eight points, while Sara McLeman chipped in seven from the bench. Alexis Romer and McLeman led the team with four rebounds each. 

Morgan Morrison led all players with 16 points off the bench for the Pioneers, while also collecting a game-high 12 boards for the games only double-double. Jessie Ruffner contributed 12 points in the win, while Dashelle Gleissner finished with 11 and Breona Martin added 10.  

The game opened with the two sides trading possession of the lead, with Wheaton's largest lead coming in the opening quarter courtesy of a Mikayla Pucci jumper. Smith did just enough to take an 18-16 lead into the second quarter. The Pioneers added 21 points to their scoring line, giving them a 39-30 advantage heading into intermission. Smith continued to push the pace in the second half, taking its largest lead at 68-36 on a Martin layup.
