Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Morgan Walsh homers three times as the Wheaton College softball team sweep the Bears of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Friday afternoon to earn their fourth straight victory and fifth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win to advance to 9-9 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

GAME ONE: WHEATON 12 - COAST GUARD 4

It was a six-run second inning that helped boost the Lyons over the Bears in game one of the NEWMAC double-header. Action started with a double down the left field line by sophomore Emily Schlapak. Senior Danielle Cimino followed and reached on an error to first which allowed Schlapak to score. The Lyons wouldn't back down there as senior Mary DeMoura single while senior Rebecca Seifert and senior Jessica Cochrane both doubled, pushing Wheaton ahead 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Bears would tally four runs to help chip away at the lead off of five hits, but Walsh would shut them down, coming up with a three-run homer to center field at the top of the fifth to give the Lyons a 9-4 lead. The sixth would look a lot similar as Wheaton registered three more runs thanks to hits from DeMoura and Cimino to seal the 12-4 victory.

Pitcher Cimino advances to 4-3 overall and struckout five.

GAME TWO: WHEATON 13 - COAST GUARD 5

The Lyons started game two with a bang as DeMoura launched a home run to center field to open action in the first. Wheaton would advance their lead in the third with five additional runs including a double from Cochrane to score in DeMoura, followed by Schlapak's seventh home run of the season, tallying three runs with Walsh earning her second home run of the night to left cente immediately after.

The Bears would put a comeback effort in place, responding with five runs of their own in the bottom of the second from four hits to bring themselves within one. Wheaton wouldn't slow down, gaining a tremendous seven-run fifth inning including six hits and Walsh's third home run of the day to score in Wheaton's final three runs.

Sophomore pitcher Shelbi Wilson earned the victory and moves to 3-2 overall.
