SALEM, Mass. - A four run third inning proved to be enough to lift the visiting Wheaton College baseball team past Salem State, 5-3, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference battle at Central Campus.

The Lyons Tommy Larason collected his second win of the season in the victory, pitching six complete innings, giving up eight hits. First-year Paul McGeehan came in in the ninth, earning his first save of his career. 

After two scoreless innings the Lyons broke through in the third. Zach Goodwin-Boyd put Wheaton on the board with a two out, bases loaded triple that brought in Tyler Walsh, Casey Twomey and Jared Sharkey. Sharkey got the rally started with a single, which was followed by an error that put Twomey on and a single by Walsh. Ty Calabro kept the inning going by drawing a walk, which setup Joey Santigate for an RBI single that knocked in Goodwin-Boyd. 

The Vikings took a run back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single by Joe Kasper. 

Walsh collected an RBI of his own in the fourth with a single that brought in Sharkey. Trailing 5-1, the Vikings added another run in the fifth, before tacking on their final run in the seventh. 

Sharkey and Goodwin-Boyd both finished the contest 3-for-5 from the plate, while Santigate and Walsh were 2-for-5.

Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, April 1 for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) double-header at home against Springfield College. The two sides will compete at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Sidell Stadium.
